We want everyone to have a safe, enjoyable and positive experience at Leominster Repair Café. Please take a few moments to read the following before bringing an item to us.

How our repairs work

Leominster Repair Café is run by volunteers who generously give their time and skills to help our community repair and reuse things.

There is no charge for our volunteers’ time, although donations are always very welcome and help towards hall hire, tools, equipment and the running of the Repair Café.

Our volunteers will always do their best to help, but repairs and advice are provided on a best-efforts basis. We cannot guarantee that an item can be repaired or that a successful repair will continue to work indefinitely.

What we can accept

Items will be checked when you arrive. Our repairers may decide that an item cannot be worked on safely or is beyond what we can reasonably repair during a session.

We cannot accept items that are unsafe to work on or test indoors, including petrol-powered machinery.

Our repairers always have the right to decline a repair if they believe it would be unsafe, beyond their experience, or cannot reasonably be completed using the tools, equipment or time available.

One repair per person

We currently ask visitors to bring one repair item per person so that we can help as many people as possible.

If time allows, our repairers may be able to look at an additional item, but we cannot guarantee this.

Sharpening is an exception – you may bring more than one item for sharpening and no advance booking is required.

Parts and materials

If your repair requires replacement parts or consumables – such as plugs, fuses, leads, zips or other components – you may need to provide or pay for these yourself.

If we identify a part that is needed but don’t have it available on the day, we’ll usually explain what you need so that you can obtain it.

Please bring your item clean

Please make sure your item is reasonably clean before bringing it to us.

Our volunteers may need to handle, dismantle and closely inspect it, so a clean item makes their job much easier – thank you!

Staying with your repair

The Repair Café is about repairing together, rather than simply dropping something off for somebody else to fix.

Where possible, we’d like you to stay with your repairer. You can explain the problem, answer questions and perhaps learn a little about your item along the way.

All items must be taken home at the end of the session, whether or not we’ve been able to repair them.

Safety

Tools, electrical equipment and other potentially hazardous equipment are used during Repair Café sessions.

Please take care while moving around the repair area and follow any safety instructions given by our volunteers.

Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

Responsibility for repairs

Our volunteers offer their time, skills and advice in good faith and will take reasonable care while working on your item. However, because we are a volunteer community repair service, we cannot guarantee the outcome or longevity of any repair.

Some faults may not be apparent until an item has been dismantled or tested, and occasionally an attempted repair may reveal further faults or deterioration.

After leaving the Repair Café, the owner is responsible for the continued use, maintenance and appropriate operation of their item.

Leominster Repair Café and its volunteers cannot accept responsibility for problems that arise after a repair where reasonable care has been taken.

Your information

We collect the information we need to manage bookings and keep appropriate Repair Café records.

We treat your personal information carefully and do not sell your information or share it for marketing purposes.

If we can’t repair your item

Unfortunately, not everything can be saved.

If we’re unable to repair your item, you remain responsible for taking it away and arranging appropriate recycling or disposal.

Where we can, we’ll be happy to suggest possible next steps.
